Iota phi foundation of Pittsburgh
The Iota Phi Foundation of Pittsburgh is pleased to announce that the Iota Phi Foundation Scholarship Fund will provide five (5) $2,000 scholarships for the 2017-18 academic school year to deserving African-American high school graduating seniors who demonstrate academic excellence. These scholarships are merit based.
To be eligible to apply for the Iota Phi Foundation Scholarship, the student must –
- Be a United States citizen,
- Be a resident of Pittsburgh or the surrounding area for at least one year prior to entering a post-secondary institution.
- Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.
- Be a high school senior planning to enroll in a full-time accredited post-secondary institution.**
** Approved accredited institutions are defined as Title IV eligible, accredited, post-secondary two- or four-year colleges or universities, vocational, or technical schools in the United States.
Interested students must complete the application and mail it along with the following required documents to the Iota Phi Foundation PO Box 99274 Pittsburgh, PA 15233.
Student must submit the following:
- A 500 word typed essay on “What actions can you take to promote social justice & embrace diversity of all people ”
- Letter of recommendation from your teacher or counselor.
- Official transcript of grades
The application and all required supporting documents (transcript, letter of recommendation and essay) must be mailed IN ONE ENVELOPE and received by October 14, 2017. No exceptions! Materials sent separately will not be considered. All information received is considered confidential and is reviewed only by the Iota Phi Foundation Scholarship Committee.
Selection of Recipients
All scholarship finalists must be present for personal interview October 28, 2017 at the DHS Building 1 Smithfield St Pittsburgh, PA 15222, downtown. Finalist will be notified of the specific time. The committee will contact all winners by November 1, 2017. All awardees must be present for the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Annual Achievement Week Formal Dinner November 18, 2017.
Award Payment of Scholarships
Scholarship payments are made in two $1000.00 installments (September and February) through a partnership with Iota Phi Foundation and NEED. The check is mailed to each recipient's school address and is made payable to the school for the student. This is a one-time only award and not renewable.
Awardees are required to notify Iota Phi Foundation of any changes of address, school enrollment, or other relevant information. Failure to notify Iota Phi Foundation in a timely manner of any of these changes may result in the forfeit or delay of an award.
